Character: Kururugi Suzaku
Series/Fandom: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Original or Template version: Original

Age: 17
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Bisexual

Residence: Noble Street, Patonce House, Lower Cove
Marked Status: Unmarked

Appearance: Built tall and lean, Suzaku stands about 178 cm (5'10"), only slightly shorter than his childhood best friend Lelouch. Though he seems slender almost to the point of being weak (omg CLAMP put some meat on them bones), this is very misleading. Not only is Suzaku extremely athletic, he studied martial arts growing up and also has military training. So what appears to be a twiggy boy is actually a trained soldier.

Moderately tanned from spending time outdoors, Suzaku has medium brown hair that curls ever so slightly at the ends, giving him a slightly tousled appearance. His bright green eyes used to be quite cheerful, but now at times reveal just how much he's seen in his short life. His smile, which used to frequent his face a lot more often than it does now, has mostly been replaced by a grim line. Suzaku doesn't have anything to smile about anymore.

His fashion sense, is basic at best. Used to having very little choice in what he wears, Suzaku tended to be more comfortable in the various uniforms he's worn throughout his life. His choice of civilian wear reflected that, consisting of plain shirts, long coats and boots. He does have a slight fondness for sunglasses though.

Personality: On the surface, Suzaku seems simple enough. Polite, kind, humble, noble, naive, a model citizen. He has an amiable nature and is generally easy to talk to and get along with. Respectful of others, Suzaku tends to prefer avoiding conflicts when possible (despite his job in the military). Once he's familiar enough with someone, he tends to reveal the fact he has something of a silly streak underneath his seriousness and enjoys having a joke now and then. All in all, Suzaku is about as nice as guys get, putting other people's welfare and happiness before his own.

But as Lelouch comments several times, Suzaku didn't used to be like that, and in a way really isn't. Underneath the façade of niceness, Suzaku can be very selfish and more than a little arrogant. On occasion he'll overestimate his own abilities and need to be bailed out. Though he's learned to control his short temper somewhat over time, that temper remains and is ferocious in its release.

Some things Suzaku can't change about himself though, like his sheer stubbornness and force of will. And his tendency to fixate on the past more than some would consider healthy. Until he met Euphie, Suzaku hated himself for what he'd done in the past. And in an attempt to atone, he constantly placed himself in harms way. The princess managed to convince him that it was all right to live happily, but deep down, Suzaku harbors a great deal of doubt.

Abilities/Strengths: Suzaku's reflexes and agility are extremely uncanny. In fact, he is able to dodge bullets. (No, really, he can.) Suzaku is of an extremely athletic nature and has a great deal more stamina than most would suspect. Due to this, Suzaku is a top-class Knightmare pilot. He is a very capable fighter, capable of taking on more than one opponent at a time (though there is such thing as too many).

Weaknesses: In the same way Nunnally is a weakness for Lelouch, Euphie tends to be a weakness for Suzaku. If someone was threatening her, Suzaku would drop whatever he was doing without a second thought. He also has a strange connection with the Geass, which is currently unknown. Whether this is actually a strength or a weakness is indeterminable, though up to this point it has been a hindrance to Suzaku.

History: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR CODE GEASS
To most, Suzaku seems a walking contradiction. The son of the former Japanese prime minister enlisted in the military of the country that conquered Japan, Britannia. Not to mention being enrolled in one of their schools, protecting one of their princesses, and fighting against the rebels who seek to free Japan of Britannian's rule. Some even go as far to call him a traitor.

The only son of the last Prime Minister of Japan, Kururugi Genbu, Suzaku lost his mother at a young age. They he never really lacked much in the first ten years of his life, he didn't have much either. Not that he particularly minded at first. He was pretty well content at the Kururugi shrine, playing in the large shed that made up his room and training in martial arts with Todo Kyoshiro.

And then Britannia set her eye on the small Asian country and it's newly discovered energy source, Sakuradite. Like anyone else with a monopoly on a precious commodity in high demand, Japan had been taking advantage of the fact they provided 70% of the energy source. Britannian was not pleased and political relations between the two countries became very uncomfortable.

It was during this time that the Kururugi Shrine received some new residents. Lelouch Vi Britannia and his sister Nunnally were sent to Japan in a political trade after the death of their mother. Suffice to say, Suzaku was not happy about having to give up his room to royals from the country threatening his own. Upon meeting the other two children, he promptly knocked Lelouch to the ground, only to back off when he realized Nunnally was blind.

Over the course of the next several months, Suzaku was surprised to find Lelouch wasn't anything like Suzaku expected him to be and they soon developed into best friends. But as the summer of 2010 drew to a close, so did their happy days together. On August 10 of that year, Britannia attacked Japan with her Knightmare Frames, robotic weapons the Japanese military wasn't ready to handle. Within a month, Japan fell.

Separated from Lelouch and Nunnally after the majority of the fighting ends, Suzaku turned himself over to Britannia for protection. His father had committed suicide in order to suppress the hard line faction's decision to adopt a do-or-die resistance and Suzaku had lost contact with Todo. He had no where left to go that wouldn't put other people in danger for harboring the son of the late prime minister.

For the next seven years, Suzaku vanished entirely from the public's view. Kept out of the way where he wouldn't be able to cause trouble, Suzaku was allowed little schooling and was forced to remain within the military compound in which he'd been placed. So when he was offered the chance to become an Honorary Britannian, Suzaku took it, as well as the opportunity to enlist in Britannia's military. He knew full well the limitations, but he also knew that Britannia would never let him do anything if he didn't play by their rules at least a little.

And it was his position in the military that allowed him to meet his childhood friend Lelouch again. When terrorists stole a capsule of nerve gas, Suzaku was in one of the patrols deployed to find and retrieve the capsule. The first soldier to come across it, Suzaku was surprised to find Lelouch there as well. His reunion with his friend was cut short when the capsule broke open to reveal a green-haired woman suspended inside instead of gas.

Commanded by his officer to shoot Lelouch, Suzaku refused and was shot in the back instead. Though injured, Suzaku survived due to a pocket watch he carried on him, a memento that belonged to his father. In a twist of fate, Suzaku became the pilot of the Lancelot, an experimental Knightmare Frame. Normally, Honorary Britannians aren't allowed to be pilots, but because the Frame was experimental, a regular Knight wasn't an option.

Following the incident in the Shinjuku ghetto, Suzaku was set up by the Purist faction to be a scapegoat for Prince Clovis's death. Though it seemed at first he wouldn't receive a fair trial, due to the sudden appearance of Zero and the interference he provides, Suzaku was acquitted because of lack of evidence.

In another twist of fate, after Suzaku left the hearing, he caught a young woman as she jumped from a window above him. Introducing herself as Euphie, she talked Suzaku into showing her around town a bit. Euphie turned out to be Third Princess Euphemia li Britannia, and after Suzaku protected her from an attack meant for him, she asked Suzaku to lend her his strength so that other people wouldn't have to lose loved ones as they had.

Suzaku was transferred to the technology department and placed under Lloyd Asplund, the inventor of the Lancelot, and at Euphie's suggestion was enrolled at Ashford Academy, where he met Lelouch once again, as well as Nunnally. Though many students resented the presence of an Eleven there, through Lelouch's mechanics Suzaku was welcomed into the Student Council and the student population in general.

But time waits for no terrorist and Zero continued to make his moves. He announced the Order of the Black Knights at the Kawaguchiko Convention Center Hotel, calling themselves the 'allies of justice' and from there began to garner the support of the Japanese people.

Though he agreed with Zero that Britannia was corrupt and wasn't worth serving, Suzaku didn't agree with Zero's methods, on more than one occasion telling the terrorist that it's worthless to achieve results by using the wrong methods. Though their ideals were more similar than dissimilar, Suzaku detested killing, an act Zero seemed all too willing to commit.

It wasn't until the Battle of Narita that Suzaku and his Lancelot really came to the attention of Zero as a serious threat. Suzaku came close to capturing Zero at that point, but the woman from the capsule in Shinjuku interfered, touching the Lancelot and causing Suzaku to see a series of images which for a time locked him in his memories.

His identity as the pilot of the Lancelot was kept private at first, the military not wanting it known a Number was the pilot of the Knightmare Frame. However during the battle following the rescue of Todo by the Order of the Black Knights and the Shiseiken, Suzaku's cockpit was cut open on national television. Following the incident, Euphie made the announcement that Suzaku was to be her Knight, much to her sister Cornelia's displeasure.

On Shikinejima, Zero tried once more to convince Suzaku to join his side, but Suzaku refused. But when Suzaku refused to release Zero in the moments before what was sure to be a fatal attack from Schneizel's Avalon, Zero hastily used Geass on Suzaku, giving him the short all encompassing command of "Live!" As the command had no limitations placed on it, it continued to be active whenever Suzaku's life was in mortal danger.

Had Schneizel not intervened afterwards, Suzaku would have likely been court-martialed for disobeying a direct order. As it was, Suzaku still felt the need to return the pin Euphie had given him upon becoming her Knight and relinquished his duties to protect her. He didn't feel he was qualified to be her Knight after his insubordination and the fact he didn't even remembering what he had done. Though Schneizel had said he didn't need to take responsibility since it'd occurred during an irregular moment, Suzaku couldn't forgive himself.

The battle on Fukuoka Base was something of a slight turning point though. While Suzaku was in the middle of an assault on the base, Euphie suddenly contacted him. Telling him to love her, Euphie promised to love him in return. Suzaku realized he had feelings for Euphie, but the Lancelot was running out of power. Asking her to erase his records and tell his friends at Ashford he'd changed schools, Suzaku prepared to lose his life. Horrified, Euphie cried for him to not die, briefly triggering Zero's command to live. What he might have done is unknown as Zero arrived and destroyed the Knightmares attacking Suzaku. Providing a fresh energy filler, Zero informed Suzaku of his intention to attack the base, and for the first and last time Suzaku and Zero cooperated.

Agreeing to be Euphie's Knight once again, Suzaku promised to help her find a way for people to smile. With the approval from Schneizel, Euphie announced at the Ashford Academy festival her plan for the Special Administrative Region in Japan. However, even the best laid and best intentioned plans can go awry in ways unforeseen. At the opening ceremony for Special Administrative Region, while Euphie was speaking privately with Zero, Suzaku had his third encounter with the green haired woman. She was about to ask him a question when she grabbed her head as if in pain. When Suzaku went to steady her, he saw images similar to the ones he saw at Narita and then passed out.

When he awoke, Euphie's dream was destroyed. The Britannian soldiers were massacring the Japanese, and Euphie was somewhere in the middle of it. But even with the Lancelot, Suzaku was too late, arriving just in time to witness Zero fatally shoot Euphie. Spending her last moments with her, Suzaku lied when she asked about the Japanese and told her that they were happy with the Japan she created.

As Zero's forces marched on Tokyo, Suzaku was visited by a small boy, who offered to explain why Euphie had issued the order to kill the Japanese. Calling himself V.V., the boy told Suzaku how Zero had a power called Geass, and that this power was not only the reason Euphie had given the order, but also the reason he'd disobeyed orders on Shikinejima. Consumed with hated, Suzaku stole the Lancelot and set out to kill Zero, cutting down everyone who got in his way.

Finally finding Zero at Ashford Academy, which had been converted into his base, Suzaku was lured into a Gefjun Disturber trap for the second time, disabling the Lancelot. Just as the Black Knights were about to cut open his cockpit, the Avalon arrived and disrupted the Gefjun Disturber. But in the process some of the students were caught in the crossfire.

In the end, Suzaku caught up with Zero on Kaminejima. Shooting off Zero's helmet, Suzaku revealed what he had suspected but hoped wasn't true, that Zero was Lelouch. Drawing his gun on the person he'd once considered his best friend, Suzaku pulled the trigger, not heeding or caring about the explosive Lelouch had brought with him. But what of the order Lelouch had given him, to live? As Lelouch's heart stopped beating, the order ceased, at the same moment the explosive went off. Suzaku woke to find himself in Template.
